Step One:
Double Boiler Method:
Set up your double boiler: Fill a saucepan with a few inches of water and bring it to a simmer. Important: Make sure the water level doesn't touch the bottom of the bowl you'll be using for the chocolate.
Prepare your chocolate: Place the chopped chocolate in a medium heatproof bowl.
Melt the chocolate: Set the bowl over the simmering water, making sure it doesn't touch the water. Using a rubber spatula, gently stir the chocolate occasionally until it's melted smooth and shiny.
Microwave Method:
Choose your bowl: Select a heatproof bowl suitable for microwaving.
Combine ingredients: Add the chopped chocolate and whipping cream to the bowl.
Melt in stages: Using the "melt" setting (if your microwave has one) or low power, heat the mixture in short bursts (15-30 seconds) at a time. Important: Stir well after each interval until the chocolate is mostly melted.
Final touches: Once most of the chocolate is melted, keep stirring until the mixture is completely smooth and glossy.
Step Two
Stir in Flavour: Add the vanilla extract, salt and Kahlúa if using it to the melted chocolate. Give it a good stir to make sure everything is evenly combined.
Fill the Pan: Pour the melted chocolate mixture into your 6-inch cast iron frying pan. Aim to fill it halfway up the sides.
Step Three
You can either use store-bought marshmallow fluff or make your own for this recipe.
If you prefer to make it fresh, there's a recipe available online recipe for homemade marshmallow fluff.
Once you have your melted chocolate in the 6-inch frying pan, spread the marshmallow fluff evenly over the top.
Step Four
Cooking Over the Campfire:
Prepare the Campfire: Make sure your campfire is well-established and the flames have died down to a manageable level. You want glowing embers and coals, not raging flames.
Heat Source: Use a grilling grate on your campfire setup. This will provide a more even heat source for cooking.
Protect Your Hands: Wear a heat-resistant glove to protect your hand when handling the hot pan.
Position the Pan: Carefully place the frying pan on the grilling grate positioned just above the flames. You don't want the flames directly licking the bottom of the pan.
Monitor the Chocolate: Keep an eye on the chocolate as it cooks. Look for small bubbles forming around the edges of the pan as an indication that it's starting to heat through. ENJOY!
